Who are frontier workers?

Frontier workers are EU, EEA or Swiss citizens who live outside the UK but they are typically employed or self-employed when working in the UK. Frontier workers have rights set out in the Withdrawal Agreement, the EEA European Free Trade Association and the Swiss Citizens’ Right

s Agreement to enter the UK and work here. These workers do not have to apply for work with minimum salary requirements or have specific qualifications to get the Frontier permit. The Frontier permit is only for EU nationals who were in the UK on or before 31 December 2020 and the process to get the frontier permit is more straight forward than the points-based system. The applications for the frontier permit are free and are made by the individual directly with no employer sponsor required. Frontier workers must have a permit as evidence of their right to enter and work in the UK which can be provided digitally or physically.
